Our Customers First
The Group’s philosophy is best described as customer-centric and its objective remains to be the supplier of choice to its customers and in its chosen market segments. To achieve such, the Group subscribes to a continuous process of engagement, collaboration, innovation and development to identify, understand and deliver on both customer and market requirements.
This approach, together with a genuine willingness to invest to support customer aspirations and market growth, has also enabled the Group to expand its overall competencies and product offerings. A culture of continuous improvement, innovation and collaboration, strategic acquisitions and capital investment, license and technology sharing agreements, all now supported by the adoption and implementation of strategies and actions aligned with sustainable practices, has allowed the Group to grow the breadth of its product offering across all its businesses and to successfully penetrate new and exciting market segments.
The Group has both grown with its customers and has facilitated growth for its customers, a win-win situation.
What we do
The Group can be divided into two components:
1) A supplier of sustainable flexible packaging products and solutions for food, household and industrial applications via the Peninsula Packaging and Barrier Film Converters operations, located in Cape Town and Durban. These flexible packaging operations, which are fully food safety accredited (BRC & FSSC 22000), possess mono and multi-layer extrusion (blown and cast), flexographic printing, lamination, perforation and an extensive range of bag and pouch-making capabilities.
2) A supplier of knitted synthetic fabrics in the form of agricultural, decorative and commercial nets, ropes, twine and geotextile fibres via the Plusnet-Geotex operations, located in Cape Town and Randfontein. Significant investment into key technologies and the establishment of a new facility in Cape Town has elevated the business as a market leader and also presented the Group with a significant opportunity to continue to grow export revenues.
Although these two components may seem very divergent, the portfolio of businesses share some very important characteristics in that they use similar input materials, share some common production processes and serve a significant number of common customers along the “farm-to-fork” supply chain.
These shared characteristics allow the group to benefit from the synergies available within the portfolio and enable it to offer its customers an ever-growing portfolio of products.
Risk Management
Duplication of technologies and capabilities across sites, investments into standby power generation capacity at all its manufacturing sites and participation in load curtailment programs allow the Group to actively manage and mitigate the risk of machine breakdown or load-shedding on the Group and therefore risk of supply interruption to its customer base.
Creating a Better Tomorrow
At Master Plastics we look to the future as we believe that we have an important role to play and a contribution to make in creating a better tomorrow.
The benefits of our product are undisputed: they play a crucial role in the protection, preservation and presentation of products, thereby answering and contributing to one of the greatest challenges facing the world, that of food security.
We however acknowledge that improper use, disposal, collection and recycling of packaging contributes to environmental issues and therefore balancing the benefits and drawbacks involves promoting and embracing responsible and sustainable practices.
The group is dedicated to fostering a circular economy, minimising waste and contributing to the sustainable future of the planet.
As a learning and always evolving organisation we welcome any opportunity to engage and collaborate with existing or new suppliers, customers, technology providers and industry participants in general. Together we can effect lasting change.
